Christian de Mesones - “THROB!” Available now!

Bassist, composer and Billboard #1 recording artist Christian de Mesones is bringing in 2025 with his latest single, Throb! (Bass Godz Remix). A funky, urban composition with a hypnotic groove, this track pushes the envelope of contemporary jazz by paying maximum tribute to the electric bass guitar. With a well-rounded, stellar cast of musicians and a spotlight on the technical prowess of four of the most charismatic contemporary jazz bass artists on the scene today, this bass anthem in the making is a fan favorite at live shows and a labor of love for de Mesones, who co-wrote the track with his producer and brother-in-law, Christopher Valentine.
Said de Mesones, “Growing up in the 70s, my bass heroes were Jaco Pastorius and Stanley Clarke, and they had songs on the radio like School Days and Teen Town, that inspired bass players of my generation. My vision for Throb! was to submit an offering that might do the same for players coming up now.”
“This bass fellowship is very personal to me,” said de Mesones when asked about this latest joining of forces with some of his fellow bass players. “I consider these featured artists to be friends and mentors.” Bill Dickens, who wrote and produced for a myriad of chart-topping artists and served as Michael Henderson’s music director for many years, was also de Mesones’ bass teacher. de Mesones met Andrew Gouche at Bass Player Live in 2003, not realizing his playing was featured on the Hidden Beach Unwrapped albums, of which he was a huge fan. Vail Johnson invited de Mesones to see him perform with Kenny G at the Birchmere in Virginia, and the two immediately hit it off and stayed in touch. de Mesones’ link with Brendan Rothwell is one of those serendipitous social media connections whereby a mutual respect and affinity for one another’s music, as well as a friendship, developed over time. “I’m constantly looking to collaborate in an effort to create something fresh, unique, and memorable, so why not do it with my friends and the people I admire? And I definitely believe I achieved my goal with this song.”
